Last Days in the Big Apple

Tuesday I went to breakfast at some place whose name I forget, biscuit sandwiches and a $10 fruit bowl (NYC am i right?) which was okay but gave me the energy I needed for one more long day. Went out to the Natural History Museum. We thought we could just walk right in without paying only to discover that you need  a ticket to go anywhere and in order to get a ticket you need to pay for it. So, $4 later we both had a ticket and quickly bustled through the museum in a few hours. Too many people, wasn’t really in the mood to take it all in. I saw the huge whale which was awesome, saw some dinosaurs, but it all seemed a little too high school field trip for me. I think they should combine the zoo with the museum, I’d rather see a real tiger than a stuffed one.  After this we took a quick stroll into Central Park, saw the Imagine tribute, then went to the Dakota and saw where Lennon was shot. After we took the subway back into the city and got a delicious burrito at Tacos Del Boca or something like that, it was like Chipotle but apparently healthier and much tastier. I would eat there daily if there was one here, it just tasted more like home cooking then Chipotle did. Then met up with Drew  and Diana to do some shopping, made another trip to UniqGlo to buy some pants which I was to have tailored before my flight left on Wednesday. After I went home, took a shower and a quick nap.   I planned this trip around this Juan Maclean DJ Set which was taking place this evening, free from 10pm, open bar 10-11pm. My visions entailed all of my new york friends getting in for free, getting drunk for free, and then dancing the night away on the dancefloor.  Of course it didn’t pan out this way, no one could make it at 10, I didn’t get a chance to eat before hand so after getting there at 10pm and taking full advantage of the free booze, i was drunk by 11pm, with only a few friends making it out.  Juan didn’t go on til late, 12 or 1am by which I was really drunk and really hungry, all I ate with those delicious strawberry sugar straws from our friends purse, and they wouldn’t let you leave and come back so no chance to get food to re-energize.  So, when Juan got on, he started out with an awesome song that started an awesome set, soon after, half our crew left being a weeknight and all, and the ladies in the club also started to dwindle. 45 minutes into his set, my hunger was too great, my mood and energy faded after another exhausting day and we took off, for whatever reason we walked home, the good part of which was walking past Papaya Dogs and getting two of the most delicious hot dogs of my life before heading home.

Wednesday, my last day in town. Went to UniqGlo to pick up my tailored clothes (i mentioned it was free right?) and then returned to my favorite sandwich shop one last time, Alidoro at which I only ate  half my sandwich due to its enormous size. We got there at the perfect time, as by the time we left the line was well out the door. And that was it, said my goodbyes, packed up my bags, put the apartment back together and caught another $40 cab to the airport. Got there at like 245 for a 345 flight, tried checking in at the electronic check in but it wouldn’t let me, had to go talk to an agent who informed me that the flight had already started boarding and I couldnt get on it officialy, but instead had to check in for the later flight 3 hours later and try and explain to the gate that i was supposed to be on the early flight.  Made it to my terminal where a fairly bitchy Delta person told me she could get me on the early flight, but couldn’t get my bag switched over, which made it pointless to fly early.   So, I waited an extra three hours, ate the rest of my sandwich, slept for 20 minutes, listened to the Peaking Lights album twice, and watched a young chinese family interact for quite a bit before hopping on a flight in which the girl next to me was reading some kind of sex novel for teens, I saw the words “tits” and “fucked” a lot.   Finally got home, my wonderful father picked me up and my trip was over.

Final Notes:

NYC was a pretty cool place to check out, there’s so much going on, so much to see, do, eat etc…  I could see myself living there,  but I hate the fact of how dirty it is. The first day i remember trying to dodge the shit and shit stains on the sidewalk, but I realize that since you walk so much, you don’t have time to keep your eyes on the ground looking out for trash/gum/shit, it has just become part of the sidewalk there. The trash gets picked up daily, but when its been baking in the sun on the sidewalk all day it fucking stinks, the subways stinks, I heard horror stories bout bums on the subways smelling like shit but I never had to deal with it. Speaking of bums, it’s so bizarre to see people actually sleeping on the sidewalk a few stores down from the place where I just spent $20 on a sandwich. I mean, we have homeless people here, but you never see them actually sleeping on the filthy sidewalk.   These few things were huge turn-offs to me, along with the fact that it takes a while to get from point A to point B, maybe you just missed the last train, maybe it takes forever to walk there because there are so many people heading there too, whatever it is, it made me realize how small MPLS really is, and how I like the size of it, not too small, not too big, right in the middle.
